It’s all right, Mike. To be honest, I am very disappointed that Naslund and Sundin have both jumped ship from the Canadian teams because the phrase “My Swedish Captain is Better Than Your Swedish Captain” just doesn’t have the same kick without them.

I have nothing against Alfie, though I will admit after Naslund’s departure and the Summer of Sundin, I am beginning to quietly hate Swedes (unless, of course, they are genetic mutations and then they’re cool).

Sherry – I believe the radio call is “Bingo Bango Bongo, his name is Roberto Luongo” (ugh, even typing that makes me want to punch myself in the face).

As for the presser, who knows. Like being a captain anyway, I think it’s just ceremonial. Though this team needed to make some sort of statement after Naslund’s 8 year run and, coupled with the unusual pick, it makes more sense to me.

Okay, what I don’t get was that if he was going to be a Captain-that-doesn’t-talk-to-the-refs-because-it’s-against-the-rules, why was a press conference even necessary? I’d think this was something you’d want to keep under the table and nobody would be none the wiser.

On an unrelated note, is it Bango? I always thought it should be Bongo. It rhymes better.

Hey Shan – You bring up a good point about his perspective. I hadn’t thought of that but between Mitchell and Luongo barking at the refs there could be a slight angle there that other teams wouldn’t have (or so we’re hoping over here since we need all the damn help we can get).

I’m not much of a Canucks fan, but I think it’s a great move. He’s the best player and it shows how much he is valued. He’s on the ice the whole game and can see a lot of what’s going on. The goaltender’s perspective can be so useful in figuring out how the team defense needs to improve. Now he has the authority to speak up whenever he wants and maybe the motivation to carry the whole team into the playoffs by some miracle.
